PRIVACY POLICY
This covers what the site collects today: an email address if you join the waitlist, and a consent record if you agree to the creator terms. That is the entire list. When the actual product launches this policy will be rewritten, and you’ll be told before anything new is collected.
1. WHO IS RESPONSIBLE
The data controller is Archer Ventures Limited, Ireland, operating as The Doomscroll Book. For anything in this policy, contact privacy@thedoomscrollbook.com.
2. WHAT WE COLLECT, AND WHY
If you join the waitlist
We collect your email address and the date and time you submitted it.
It is used for exactly one thing: emailing you when the book launches. Not a newsletter, not marketing for anything else.
Legal basis: your consent, given by submitting the form.
If you agree to the creator terms
We collect the name or handle you give, your email address, the version of the terms you agreed to, and the timestamp of that agreement.
We also collect what you tell us about your own content: which categories it falls under, and who it’s aimed at. This is used to match your posts to readers who’d actually want them, not to build a profile of you personally.
This is a record of a licensing agreement. It exists so that both of us can show what was agreed and when, and so we can contact you about your royalty.
Legal basis: your consent, and our legitimate interest in keeping an accurate record of licences we rely on.
What we don’t collect
No accounts, no passwords, no payment details, no age, no location, no interest profile, no social media logins. Some of those may be needed when the product launches. None of them are collected now.
3. COOKIES AND ANALYTICS
We do not currently use tracking cookies or analytics. No Google Analytics, no pixels, no advertising trackers, no cookie-based profiling. The site sets no cookies of its own. If that changes, this section will be updated first and consent requested where the law requires it.
Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser type, page requested, timestamp) for security and to keep the site running. That is ordinary infrastructure logging, not analytics, and it’s retained on their standard schedule.
4. WHO ELSE SEES YOUR DATA
We never sell your data, to anyone, for any purpose. We don’t share it for anyone else’s marketing.
We use these processors, who handle data on our instructions:
- Supabase: database hosting, stores the waitlist and consent records.
- Vercel: website hosting and delivery, processes server logs.
These providers may process data outside your country, including outside the UK/EEA. Where that happens, transfers rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent safeguard.
We may also disclose data if legally required to, or to establish or defend a legal claim.
5. HOW LONG WE KEEP IT
Waitlist emails: until the launch email has been sent, or until you ask to be removed, whichever comes first. If the project is abandoned, the list is deleted.
Creator consent records: for as long as we rely on that licence, and for a period afterwards to defend against claims about content already printed. If you withdraw, we stop printing your content, but we keep the record of the licence itself. Deleting the proof of permission we relied on would leave us unable to show it ever existed.
6. YOUR RIGHTS
You have the right to:
- Access: get a copy of what we hold about you.
- Correction: fix anything inaccurate.
- Deletion: have it erased, subject to the consent record retention above.
- Withdraw consent: at any time, without giving a reason. This doesn’t affect processing already carried out.
- Portability: receive your data in a machine readable form.
- Object or restrict: challenge processing based on legitimate interests.
Email privacy@thedoomscrollbook.com to use any of these. We’ll respond within one month, usually much sooner. There is no charge.
Every launch email will also carry a one-click unsubscribe, which removes you from the list.
If you’re in the UK or EEA and think we’ve handled your data badly, you can complain to your national data protection authority. In the UK that’s the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk). We’d rather you told us first so we can fix it.
7. SECURITY
Data is held in a hosted database with access restricted to the site operator, and is transmitted over HTTPS. No system is perfectly secure, but the amount of personal data here is deliberately small: an email address and, for creators, a name and a timestamp.
8. CHILDREN
This site isn’t aimed at children and we don’t knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has submitted their email, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Buying the book itself will require you to be 18 or older. Since you choose the category mix yourself, we can’t guarantee everything in it is appropriate for a younger reader.
9. CHANGES
If this policy changes, the date below changes. If the change is material, especially once the product launches and more data is collected, we’ll email anyone on the list rather than quietly editing this page.
